Milford Sound Lodge is a boutique accommodation and restaurant destination located in the heart of Fiordland National Park, on the bank of the Cleddau River.
SITE prepared a sitewide landscape masterplan to support Department of Conservation approvals, along with detailed design for the main lodge arrival and outdoor spaces. The design carefully manages the movement of campervans, buses and private vehicles, while creating a clearer, safer and more welcoming pedestrian arrival experience.
A key objective was to reduce the dominance of hard surfacing and allow the surrounding landscape to become a stronger part of the guest experience. Vehicle areas were refined to the minimum required for safe and efficient movement, with remaining areas returned to naturalistic planting and softer landscape treatments.
The wider proposal included signage, wayfinding bollards, site furniture, an outdoor stargazing area and other sitewide improvements. Together, these elements help create a more cohesive visitor experience while responding with restraint to the Fiordland setting.
